A step into David Losoya's studio is a step into the presence of immeasurable talent.
Color Explodes from the larger-than-life likenesses of Carlos Santana, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin that fill two walls of the studio, while newpaper clippings, photographs and artwork by other artists display the accomplishments of this young artist and the friends he has made along the way. David Losoya has been creating works of art with the airbrush since he was 14 years old.
Specializing in portraits, he chose Hendrix and Joplin because he liked their music and he says he felt compelled to paint Morrison's portrait. "He kind of like called me," Losoya said.
The Morrison portrait includes references to several of his songs painted into the colorful background, including lightning for "Riders in the Storm," flames for "Light My Fire" and the figure of a woman in the flames for "LA Woman."
The Hendrix portrait includes obscure details, such as razor stubble and blemishes on his face, and the most distinguishing mark - a chipped tooth.
Joplin is not yet finished, lacking only a few details and a signature. Losoya said that after he had finished the first two and was working on the Joplin portrait he came across a magazine article that grouped Joplin, Morrison and Hendrix all together and told of how they had all died 27 years previously, each at the age of 27. Now me and my family put a business together its not easy but its worth it.We moved to colorado two years back to paint bikes for a company called gunslinger customs it was a learning experience for us after a divorce from a 18 yr marriage when i got there. then working with her new boyfriend man that was a job in its own but i servived it raising my 3 girls alone for a year and a half but it made me strong and NOW i know how all teenage girls are. woooo hoooo there something else but i wouldnt change a thing.
